Happy Birthday Laurel

Laurel turned 6 on August 8th! We had a family birthday party with grandparents and her uncle Kimball and Aunt Jamie. She got to choose her favorite dinner, California Pizza Kitchen white cheese pizza. And she picked out an icecream cake. It was a very low key birthday celebration and we had so much fun visiting with family.

6 Things We LOVE about Laurel:

Laurel is always happy and smiling!
Laurel is the best big sister to Savannah and now Landon!
Laurel is eager to learn about everything!
Laurel has the best sense of humor and makes up the funniest songs!
Laurel is very obedient and wants to please her parents!
Laurel is very compassionate and wants to include everyone when playing!

We love you and are so proud of the little girl you are becoming.
Happy Birthday!

Winter Wonderland

About two weeks ago, Laurel said that she wished we would move back to Utah where it snows. She said it wasn't fair that her cousins got to play in the snow and she didn't. Her preschool had obviously done a great job covering the "winter season" topic. I had a five year old dreaming of snow. What fun it was to see her face when she woke up to lots of snow yesterday.

We went out and built the biggest snowman that I have ever witnessed from Alabama snow.

While the girls were inside warming up with some hot cocoa, Seth was hunting for the perfect sled. They headed back out to sled down the hill.

We went in and took naps. And just like that the snow was gone, as if it had all been a dream. That night Laurel hugged me and said, "mommy, this was the best day ever!" One little five year old's wish had come true and one little three year old had experienced snow for the first time.

The Faith of a Child

On May 8, 2008 the girls and I were in the car and this is how the conversation from the backseat went:
Laurel: "Savannah, you know when I was a baby you weren't born yet. You were in Heaven with Jesus."

Savannah: "uh,uh"

Laurel: "Savannah, did you pick us out a sweet little baby brother while you were there?"

Savannah: "uh,uh"

Laurel: "You did? What's his name?"

Savannah: "I don't know."

Laurel: "I know, we can call him Seth."

I was in the front seat with tears streaming down my face and went home and wrote this all down so I could hold onto Laurel and Savannah's faith. We had been trying to have another baby for over two years and there were many days I had just given up hope. Laurel was always diligent to pray that we would have a baby brother. If she forgot, we would say another prayer immediately. There were days I was discouraged and I would say, "Laurel, do you think we will have another baby?" and she would reply, "yes mommy, you just have to keep praying." So we did.....

We found out last Monday that we are indeed having a little boy!!!!
And with her simple faith, Laurel said, "I told you we would have a boy!"
