Color Me Rad

 

A group of my friends and I put on our white T-shirts and met up at the Hoover Met to run in a color Me Rad Race!  This race was a 5k that benefited the Ronald McDonald House. 

 

There was so much energy going on before the race.  Lots of loud, fun music.  A really great announcer, getting everyone pumped up for the race, and guess who else?

 

Sean Astin, you know, the guy from Lord of the Rings, Goonies.  A movie star.  Right here in Birmingham.  That was pretty cool to see right before the race.

 

So, the race starts with tons of us lined up and the very energetic announcer throwing packets of a colored powdered mixture.  The point of this race was to run and be as colorful as you could at the end.  Along the way, we would run through areas where people were dashing us with more color.

 

This gives an idea of the craziness that was going on at the race.  You see all that smoke in the air?  That would be the colored powder flying all over people.

 

 

So fun to see the colors that everyone ended up with!

This is my good friend, Sariah and her three children.  They came to watch us race and had just as much fun pouring color all over themselves.  I will have to say Sariah was the most colorful of us all.  It was such a fun race for a great cause!  It's always so much fun to do these races with good friends!

A Dirt Bike Story

Once upon a time, there were two little boys...

whose daddy rode dirt bikes.

 

 

And these little boys loved to pretend that they were dirt bikers also.

Anytime their daddy went out to ride his dirt bike, they ran to the deck to watch him.  Their daddy always tried to get them to ride with him, but they liked to watch from a distance.  They said that he went too fast and they were afraid.  These two little boys loved to get their pretend dirt bikes and ride them all over the furniture making dirt bike sounds.

 

One of these little boys fell asleep, while looking at his daddy's dirt bike plaque.  He dreamed about racing with his daddy one day.

Lily's Guitar Recital/Ava's Dance Recital

You know those friends who become more like your family than friends?  Well, that's the Tumlin family.  They are such a special family to us.  Dana was my first friend when we moved to Chelsea and we hit it off.  One of those friends that you feel like you have known for ever!  She had two little girls the same age as Laurel and Savannah so play dates were so easy for us.  So Laurel and Ava have known each other since they were three and Savannah and Lily, since they were one! 

I took the girls to watch Lily perform in her guitar recital.

She did such a good job!

Dana's parents are the sweetest couple.  So easy to see where Dana gets her compassion from.
After the recital, her dad insisted that we go out to eat with them.  He would not let me pay for anything.  He treated me like I was his daughter.

 Lily's Gram.  This is Joel's mother and after sitting by her at the recital, I understand where Joel's sense of humor comes from.  She was such a funny lady.

 Silly girls!  So hard to get them to cooperate for a group picture.  They were so excited to be together.  We don't get much time together in the school year.

 

 

A few weeks later....

We went to watch Ava perform in her dance recital.  She danced three dances and is such a good dancer!

We love our friends!

 

End of School Year Happenings

Laurel had to make a container for an egg drop.  She made a butterfly.  Unfortunately, her egg did not survive but she said it was lots of fun watching all the creations that her classmates came up with.

Landon, Sawyer and I went to Laurel and Savannah's field day.  We skipped back and forth between both girl's events.  I didn't get many pictures because it was pretty tricky watching the girls and trying to keep an eye on the boys.  Laurel's friends giving Sawyer high fives!

Eating lunch with Savannah.  That was her one request to please eat lunch with her. 

They ate in their classroom that day while they watched magic school bus.  Landon was pretty entertained and Sawyer just wanted to push the chair all around.  I have loved helping out in Savannah's classroom this year.  The children were so sweet to each other and they would all come running up to me anytime they saw me to give me hugs.  I have so much respect for teachers and all they do!

Don't think we didn't have to get Landon one of those big Kona Snow Cones!

I knew it was time to go when Landon started getting on the field.  He wanted to play with them so bad!

Fun and tiring day.  Not going to lie, I'm pretty much over school by the time field day arrives.  Done and ready for summer!

Sawyer climbed onto tramp all by himself!  Getting on doesn't scare me.  It's getting off the tramp that scares me.

Laurel snapped this picture of me putting Sawyer on the potty.  We're starting early with him!  If he shows any interest in sitting on the potty, I'm stripping him down. 

I love that these four are such good friends.  Yeah, we have some little tiffs around here, but not often.  For the most part, they are best friends!

 

The 3 R's

Reduce, Recycle, Reuse! 

The last week of school, Savannah and I went on her field trip to Birmingham Southern College to learn more about recycling.  I have to be honest.  I wasn't really looking forward to this field trip.  I thought it would be pretty boring and I knew that I 'm not as passionate about the 3 R's as I should be. 

The campus was beautiful.

We began with a walk through the woods.  The tour guide was so funny and kept things very interesting.

I climbed a very high, impressive tree house to take this picture.

After having to be so good and quiet, the man in charge (did I mention he was from Australia?  I love listening to an Australian accent!)  let the first graders take off running across a very large field to get their wiggles out.

We then headed to another part of the campus where the tour guide showed us how certain objects could be recycled.

 With a slide connected!  Each student slid from one floor to the next and then the teachers took a turn.  This is Miss Cooper, Savannah's teacher.

These were some worn out children at the end of the day.  I left wanting to be a better steward of my environment.  There are so many things I could do differently.
