Part 2
We all went outside to see if the kitten was still there. We didn't see him anywhere. We were all saying, "here kitty, here kitty!"
The children were so disappointed. Seth told them before he left for work that the kitten was probably hiding somewhere and would come out eventually.
At 8 that morning, Seth's dad called and said that he and granny wanted to come up for the day. He said that Helen (granny) and I could go shopping or do whatever I needed to do and he would stay with the children. I love that man!
So I left Laurel, Savannah, and Landon with him. I took Sawyer. We want papa to be around for many more years, so I thought it wouldn't be too wise to leave him with all four!
He walked in, saw me sweeping, took the broom from me and swept the floor.
He brought a coconut, pineapple, and mango. He cracked open the coconut and let the kids try the coconut juice. Savannah was the only one who liked it.
{Love, love this man!}
Granny, Sawyer and I left to go shopping. Sawyer fell asleep on the way to Hancocks fabric store so Helen said that she would stay in the van with him. {Love her too!}
I go into the store. It takes about 10 minutes. When I come out, I see granny and a couple of women staring at the front of the van. I walk up and the lady says....
"you have a kitten under your hood."
and I say,
"No Way!"
She tells me that I might want to turn off the car because the kitty could get in the motor.
{several other women have walked up}
I say, "oh, he is probably stuck in the same hole he was in last night in my husband's car." She says, "no, I saw him pop his head up right here," as she points to behind the grill.
I say, "oh well maybe it is not the same kitten. Maybe there is a kitten running around here." She says, "he was orange." I say, "your are kidding me! It is the same kitten!" "How in the world did I just drive 20 minutes with a kitten hanging on underneath!"
I roll the windows down and turn off the van.
One lady, an employee from Hancocks, says, "you need to call 911 and tell them this is not an emergency, but you have a cat under your hood and you need a fire truck."
The lady wearing scrubs, was on the phone with a friend who was a cat rescuer. "Yes, she has a cat under her hood." "Can you come get it out?"
The lady with gray hair and a really long braid said, "honey, you need to turn that car back on. That baby is more important than a cat!"
The Hancock lady, "mam, you just bring the baby to me and I will watch him. I work right in the middle of the store."
Two women in front of car, "here kitty, kitty!"
Two more women...
"She needs to drive to express oil change. They will jack it up and will be able to see under there."
"No, she can't drive anywhere. She will kill the cat!"
I'm standing there thinking, wow, we should have had all of this on camera!
A man drives by.
"Mam, do you need some help?"
"Yes sir, I do!"
He is briefed. He gets out and him and the lady start calling for kitty. The Kitten pops his head up and the man pulls the grill out, while the lady pulls the kitty out.
I say, "now what do I do with him?"
The lady in the scrubs tells me that she works at an animal clinic and would love to take him with her. Did you know that all orange cats are males? She told us that too.
She said that he was too young to be adopted but that he would be taken care of until he could be.
I think that this will be a much better life for the kitten!
The lady in the scrubs names the kitten Hancock and off they go!
And the gray haired lady with the long braided hair says, "now turn that car on before that baby gets too hot!"
