Laurel and Savannah both were given projects to do at home. Do you like school projects? I'm not very fond of them because I feel like I'm the one doing them. Well, not this time. I gave them complete control.
Laurel had to choose a planet and research it. She chose Uranus. She had to make a model which represented her planet.
I let her do the spray painting and everything. She had a blast! She spray painted two styrofoam balls and hot glued a cd between them. We did have some help from pinterest on this idea!
Savannah had to pick a page from a book and illustrate it using a different technique than was used by the author. She chose the book, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, by Mo Willems. Well, Mo used coloring as his technique and Savannah chose water colors for her technique.
We were all shocked at Savannah's drawing skills! The girl can draw!
Insert funny story here: Savannah had finished the page she was recreating and I said, "Savannah we can't just let you walk in with that one page, can we?" And she said, "well, do you have another idea?" I said, "let me think!" Then a few minutes later, I said, "why don't we make a front and back cover just like the book and staple it together like the book!" She was so stinking cute how she jumped up and hugged me and said, "I love it mommy! Mommy you are the best mommy with the best ideas!" Love her!
I love how she wrote, words and pictures by Mo Willems and Savannah Clayton
So after these two projects, I decided home projects weren't so bad after all. They are fun when you let go of control and actually let your children do their own project!
Savannah was chosen as Leader of the Week and her character was Honor!
I'm so proud of them. School is going really well so far. We love their teachers and they have made some really sweet friends.
