Volcano Project

Savannah had to make a volcano.  The instruction sheet said that there was no wrong way to make a volcano.  These are the times that I don't like Seth traveling.  I would love for him to do this type of project because he would have gotten all into it, I'm sure.  We waited until the last minute, of course.  Because that's just the way I roll!

One night laying in bed I had this design pop into my head.  I ran it by Savannah the night before it was due and she loved it.
Instructions:
Cover a 20 oz. bottle anyway you want.
We had to have the baking soda already in the bottle and send the vinegar separately.
The original plan was to cover it with play dough.  Well, I had not bought play dough so I made some up.  Well, I quickly decided I wasn't going to make up enough play dough to cover the bottle so we added some black poster board and then we crinkled up pieces of a brown paper sack and hot glued them all over the poster board.

She loved it!  She thought it looked so cute and so did I.  When she went to bed, I added red lava, which was red ribbon cut in a rippled way.  Made it even cuter.
See, this is why I need Seth here for these kind of projects because he wouldn't be making or thinking cute. He would have made it to where when it erupted, you could see it erupt, and you wouldn't have to look down the hole to see it erupt!!!!
Seth gets home from being out of town and surprises Savannah by showing up at school.  All of the students get their volcano projects and we go outside.  Everyone lines up their project.  It probably wouldn't have been so awkward if they had just let them all erupt at one time.  But no, Savannah's teacher took a picture of each one with everyone gathered around.
We get to Savannah's and it erupts quietly inside of all that cuteness!  I will admit, I was a little embarrassed.  Totally miscalculated the project.  I guess I thought it was just going to shoot up like a real volcano.  Poor Savannah, I think her face was a couple of shades of red.  I told her I was sorry that I had failed her and she was so cute.  She said, "I liked my volcano.  It was cute and different."  I love her!
